Losing Color by Cameron Karsten Oporoza, Niger Delta, Nigeria, West Africa November 23, 2005 |

The crowds continued to thicken on the day of our arrival. We felt welcomed to The Niger Delta, and may I add, slightly overwhelmed. The festivals were abundant and the attention we received was immense. We were Kings and Queens, white stones upon a shore of black sand. More simply, we were a group of American and Nigerian delegates come to the small riverine village of Oporoza within West Africa’s Nigeria. We were a group under Global Citizen Journey, come to help build a library and educate ourselves about the issues the villagers, as well as the whole region, faced. Albeit, for our arrival, business matters came later. In Africa, the celebration of life is priority, and as a guest within the culture, we were to be put in the spotlight of entertainment. |
